This handcrafted pair of Nando’s x Veldskoen shoes is a collaboration between two passionate South African brands eager to share the heart and soul of our home with you.

At Nando’s, everything we do is rooted in PERi-PERi, also known as the African Bird’s Eye Chili. These peppers are grown in the African soil and are the key to our flame grilled PERi-PERi chicken.

And that includes this pair of shoes made just for you. If you’re reading this message, it means you’ve already found and scanned the QR code on the extra pair of insoles that came with your shoes. These insoles are not for wearing, but rather for planting.

Follow the easy instructions below, to turn the seeds in your soles into PERi-PERi plants.

  • Remove the seeded paper insoles and flip around to find the seeds
  • Tear the soles into smaller pieces and place them on weed-free, loamy soil, so that they cover the surface area of the pot. Make sure to select a few pieces, as they might not all germinate.
  • Wet the paper soles.
  • Sprinkle some soil over the wet paper soles.
  • Water again. The soil must be moist, at all times for a Peri-Peri plant to be happy.
  • Place the pot in a well-lit area inside, or outside.
  • Give it about 14 Days, and you should see a little Peri-Peri plant sprouting out. Between 6-8 weeks you should see established seedlings.
